The Mouse That Never Needs Charging: Thanks to a $100 Mouse Pad

A Mouse That Never Runs Out of Battery

Imagine never having to plug in your mouse again. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it’s kind of possible. Meet the Logitech G703, a wireless gaming mouse that doesn’t play by the usual charging rules.

Normally, wireless mice need to be plugged in or docked when the battery runs low. But the G703 has a little trick up its sleeve. On the bottom, you can swap out a small circular piece for a special disc that changes how the mouse charges entirely.

With that piece in place, the G703 is able to stay powered while you use it. No plugging in, no docking stations, no mid-game panic when the battery dies. Just constant power as if the mouse never needed charging at all. Pretty slick.

The Catch: A $100 Mouse Pad

Here’s the deal though. This whole system only works if you buy the mouse pad. And it’s not cheap. At around $100, the pad itself is basically a giant wireless charger that constantly keeps your mouse topped up.

It’s cool, but it also raises a question. If it’s just a wireless charger built into a mouse pad… what else can it charge?

The Real Test: Charging More Than a Mouse

That’s exactly what I wanted to find out. I grabbed my iPhone, placed it on the mouse pad, and waited to see what would happen. If this worked, it would mean you could use one pad to power both your mouse and your phone, which honestly would make the $100 price tag a lot easier to swallow.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work. The mouse pad is designed specifically for the mouse and its little charging disc. Put a phone on it, and nothing happens.

Final Thoughts

A mouse that never needs charging is a cool concept, but it comes at a price. The $100 mouse pad is clever, but unless it can also replace your normal wireless charger, it feels more like a luxury than a necessity.

Still, it’s pretty wild that the mouse pad costs more than some of the actual phones I repair.
