iFixit Sent Us Their New Soldering Station – I Only Have One Problem With It

iFixit makes some of the best repair tools out there, and when they dropped their new soldering station, they sent one over for me to check out. The full kit goes for around $300 CAD, which is definitely not cheap but it might actually be worth the price.

Let’s break it down.

What’s in the Box?

The soldering iron kit is packed nicely, like all iFixit products. It comes with:

  • The soldering station

  • A screwdriver

  • Instruction manuals

  • A really cool poster (which is definitely going on my wall)

Everything is compact, portable, and super well-organized. iFixit always nails the presentation and layout.

First Impressions

Here’s the good:
This thing feels high quality like, really well thought-out. It heats up fast, it’s USB-C powered, and the whole setup is completely portable. You don’t need to be tethered to a bench to get work done.

What I really like is that the battery doubles as a power supply, and it’s also super repairable, which is exactly what I’d expect from iFixit. You can actually open it up and replace things without much trouble. That’s a huge win for anyone who does repairs on the go.

The One Problem…

Okay, so here’s the part I’m not thrilled about.

The soldering tips are proprietary, meaning you can’t just swap them with standard tips you already own. And on top of that, they’re a bit expensive compared to others on the market.

That said, iFixit has a pretty good reason for doing it this way. Their tips are custom-designed for faster heating, consistent performance, and longer life, so they’re not just being difficult for no reason. But still… it’s something to keep in mind before buying.

Final Thoughts

If you’re into DIY electronics, microsoldering, or just want a super sleek portable soldering station from a trusted brand, this thing is honestly awesome. The price is steep, and the proprietary tips might bug you, but the overall experience makes it hard not to love.

Would I recommend it? Yes, as long as you know what you're paying for. It works well, feels premium, and does exactly what it’s supposed to. If you're okay with the proprietary tips, it's a solid addition to any repair setup.

That’s my honest take, a well-built tool with a few limitations, but it gets the job done.

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next article!
