The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic Can Tell If You Eat Your Veggies… Sort Of

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is here, and the first thing I noticed? They brought back the rotating bezel. Finally. But as great as that is, it’s not even the feature that’s making headlines.

This watch now claims it can tell if you’ve been eating enough fruits and vegetables. Yes, you read that right your watch is now judging your diet.

My Experience Testing It

I ran the test myself and… let’s just say the watch thinks I need to eat more vegetables. (Maybe it’s not wrong.) It only takes about 30 seconds, and it’s fun to see the score pop up, but I wouldn’t exactly plan my grocery list around it.

Some users online have seen their scores improve after eating more carrots, spinach, and peppers for a week, so it can reflect changes but only if those foods are high in carotenoids. If you’re more of a blueberry-and-broccoli person, don’t expect much.

The Cheez-It Experiment

And now for the fun part. The Verge Senior reporter Victoria Song tested the feature in the most chaotic way possible: by sticking an orange Cheez-It cracker to their thumb during the scan.
The result? A near-perfect antioxidant score.

Why? Because Cheez-Its are orange, and the pigment in cheddar cheese contains carotenoids. The watch has no way of knowing whether that color came from carrots… or a cracker. They even tried coloring their skin with an orange marker, and yep, perfect score again.

Meanwhile, antioxidant-rich foods that aren’t orange, like blueberries or kale don’t register as much because they don’t boost carotenoid levels in your skin.

So, Is It Useful?

Honestly, it’s a fun gimmick. It can kind of track whether you’re eating carrots and peppers, but it’s definitely not medical-grade science. If you want an accurate picture of your diet, you’ll still need, you know… real food and common sense.

But hey, rotating bezel.

Final Thoughts:

The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is a solid upgrade if you missed the bezel, but don’t take the antioxidant thing too seriously. If Cheez-Its can trick it, maybe just use it as a reminder to eat a salad every now and then.

I’ll keep testing weird new tech like this, so hopefully by then I’ve eaten a salad (or at least fewer crackers).
