Why I Ditched the Magic Mouse 2 for This Older Model That’s Actually Better

I love Apple products, but sometimes they make decisions that leave me scratching my head. Case in point: the Magic Mouse 2.

At first glance, it’s sleek, minimal, and very Apple. But then, you realize the charging port is on the bottom of the mouse. Yep, that means the second you plug it in, it’s completely useless. No scrolling, no clicking, no productivity, just a very expensive desk ornament.

Here’s what it looks like in action. The moment you plug it in, the Magic Mouse 2 flips over and becomes completely unusable. Honestly, it feels more like a prank than a design choice.

Even my editor hates it, and honestly, I can’t blame him. Who designed this and thought, “Yeah, this is fine”?

The Obvious Solution Nobody Talks About

Here’s the thing: there’s a ridiculously simple fix to this problem, and it solves literally everything you hate about the Magic Mouse 2.

I grabbed a package from AliExpress for about 40% off, and it cost me half the price of a new Magic Mouse 2. Inside? The solution: Apple’s first-generation Magic Mouse.

Why the First-Gen Magic Mouse Is Better

This older Magic Mouse looks almost identical to the second-gen version and does pretty much everything it does. The one big difference?

It uses removable batteries.

Instead of plugging in and waiting for it to charge, you just swap out the AA batteries and keep using it. No downtime, no awkward upside-down mouse, no nonsense.

In short: out with the new, in with the old.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes Apple really nails it with design but other times, they make choices like this. If you hate waiting for your Magic Mouse 2 to charge, grab the first-gen model. It’s cheaper, just as functional, and way less frustrating.

At this point, I think Apple called it the Magic Mouse because it disappears from your desk the second it needs charging.
