Can You Still Get Your Pixel Repaired?
A cracked Pixel screen can get expensive fast. But before you pay for a repair, there is one thing worth checking: could the protection you already bought still help?
Google has made a change to Preferred Care in Canada. The detail that matters most is what happens to people who already have a plan.
New sales stopped. Existing coverage did not.
Google ended new Canadian Preferred Care purchases on October 1, 2026. Existing monthly and two-year subscribers retain active coverage at this time, according to Google's Canadian claims guide.
Before reaching for your wallet, there are a few details to check.
A Faulty Pixel? Check the Warranty First
A mechanical or electrical fault could still qualify for the manufacturer's warranty. Restart the phone, then check Google's warranty coverage before paying for a repair.
If the fault qualifies, use the warranty repair process. Otherwise, confirm that your Preferred Care plan is active and ask the correct provider about eligibility and next steps.
Covered Does Not Mean Every Repair Is Free
Google's Canadian fee listings show a C$39 screen repair fee for many eligible Pixels. Other fees vary by model and claim type. Confirm the deductible or service fee and any tax under your own plan.
| Service or claim | What to check |
|---|---|
| Eligible screen-only repair | C$39 is listed for many Pixels. Confirm your model, eligibility and applicable tax. |
| Other damage or malfunction | Fees vary by device and claim type. Ask for the amount under your own plan. |
| Device replacement | Confirm the replacement fee and any return requirements before proceeding. |
| Check | What it means |
|---|---|
| Repair availability | Plan walk-in service is limited to eligible cracked Pixel screens. Locations vary. Foldable inner-screen damage requires a replacement claim with a replacement fee. |
| Exclusions | Unauthorized repairs, misuse and intentional damage are among the things the plan does not cover. |
| Claim limits | Accidental damage claims are limited to two per rolling 12 months. Check your remaining coverage term and claim history. |
Ask the provider to confirm approval and available service options before arranging work yourself.
You Can Still Use a Local Repair Shop
If your Pixel is no longer covered by Google's warranty or an active Preferred Care claim, you are not limited to sending the phone back to Google.
In Canada, Google lists Mobile Klinik as an authorized Pixel repair partner. Google says it offers out-of-warranty repairs for all Pixel phones, while Pixel 6 and newer models, including Fold devices, can receive both in-warranty and out-of-warranty walk-in service.
You can also take the phone to a reputable independent repair shop. Google provides genuine Pixel parts, repair manuals and diagnostic resources that can also be used by professional repairers, so going through Google itself is not your only paid repair option.
If you are paying for the repair yourself, ask the shop what parts it plans to use, whether the repair comes with its own warranty, how long the work should take and whether features such as water resistance or calibration may be affected. Getting a written quote also makes it easier to compare a local repair with Google's authorized options.
Cancelling Has a Catch
The Date on Your Plan Changes Who You Call
Your plan purchase date determines the claims provider. Check the plan confirmation, rather than guessing from when you bought the phone.
| Your Preferred Care plan | Claims provider |
|---|---|
| Two-year plan bought before January 8, 2026 |
Assurant 877-406-4372 |
| Two-year plan bought on or after January 8, 2026 |
Asurion 866-788-5776 |
| Any existing monthly plan |
Asurion 866-788-5776 |
Keep your IMEI or serial number ready, and file promptly because claim deadlines apply.
Final Thoughts
The end of new Preferred Care sales does not mean existing Canadian coverage disappeared. If you already have a plan, check it before paying for a Pixel repair.
Start with the manufacturer's warranty for mechanical or electrical faults, then check Preferred Care if you still have an active plan. If neither applies, compare Google's authorized repair options with a reputable local repair shop and ask about the parts, price, turnaround time and repair warranty before deciding.
