Apple Unveils An Upgraded Siri Thanks To Google

At WWDC 2026, Apple officially unveiled the biggest Siri overhaul in the assistant's history.

Powered by Apple Intelligence, the new Siri AI transforms Siri from a basic voice assistant into a deeply integrated AI system that can understand personal context, analyze what is on your screen, see the world through your camera, help write documents, and take action across apps and devices.

The announcement was one of the biggest reveals of Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote and represents Apple's most ambitious AI push yet.

Siri Is Finally Becoming More Intelligent

Apple says Siri AI is built on a new generation of Apple Intelligence models that combine personal context understanding, app actions, on-screen awareness, image understanding, and access to broader world knowledge.

The goal is to make Siri more capable of finding information, understanding requests, and completing tasks without forcing users to jump between multiple apps.

Rather than acting as a simple voice assistant, Siri is now designed to function as a more complete AI assistant throughout Apple's ecosystem.

Siri Can Hold Conversations

One of the biggest changes is Siri's new conversational experience.

Instead of handling only simple one-off requests, Siri AI can now maintain ongoing conversations, answer follow-up questions, help brainstorm ideas, provide detailed responses, and assist with more complex tasks.

Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app that stores conversation history, allowing users to revisit previous chats and continue them across multiple Apple devices.

A conversation started on an iPhone can continue on an iPad or Mac while remaining synced through iCloud.

The Standout Feature

Perhaps the most impressive addition is Visual Intelligence.

On iPhone, Siri is now integrated directly into the Camera app through a new Siri mode. Users can point their camera at objects, documents, food, receipts, products, or locations and receive information or suggested actions based on what Siri sees.

Visual Intelligence is also coming to Mac, iPad, and Vision Pro.

On Mac, users can select content on their screen and ask Siri questions about it. On iPad, the feature is integrated directly into screenshots. On Vision Pro, Siri can analyze the environment around you and provide information about what you're looking at.

Apple says this deep image understanding is powered by Apple Foundation models running through Private Cloud Compute to help preserve user privacy.

Siri Understands Personal Context

Another major upgrade is Siri's ability to understand information stored across your Apple devices.

Siri can search messages, photos, emails, notes, and other personal content to help locate information when needed.

Apple says this allows Siri to provide more useful answers and complete tasks that previously required manually searching through apps and files.

Combined with broader web knowledge and app integration, Siri can pull together information from multiple sources to help users accomplish tasks more efficiently.

Writing Tools Are Built Into Siri

Apple is also expanding Siri's role as a productivity tool.

Users can now generate drafts, rewrite text, brainstorm ideas, summarize content, and receive writing feedback directly through Siri.

The assistant can even adapt its writing style based on who you're communicating with, helping messages feel more natural and personalized.

In addition, Apple Intelligence now provides automatic proofreading across the operating system, including many third-party applications, helping correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and capitalization while users type.

Siri Sounds Better Too

Apple has redesigned Siri's voice experience using its newest AI models.

The company says Siri is now more expressive and natural sounding, making conversations feel less robotic than before.

Users will also be able to customize aspects of Siri's voice, including pacing and expressiveness.

Apple is pairing this with a major upgrade to system-wide dictation, improving accuracy when capturing spoken words, punctuation, and capitalization.

Siri Is Coming Everywhere

The new Siri AI experience is not limited to the iPhone.

Apple confirmed Siri AI will be rolling out across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay, AirPods, and Vision Pro.

Each platform receives its own tailored experience, while maintaining access to the same core Siri AI capabilities.

On macOS, Siri is integrated directly into Spotlight, allowing users to ask questions about files, compare documents, summarize content, search through messages and emails, and draft content without opening additional apps.

On Apple Watch, Siri AI gains a dedicated app, while Vision Pro receives a unique spatial version of Siri that can be placed directly within a user's virtual environment.

Final Thoughts

Apple announced Siri AI during WWDC 2026, with developer betas available immediately and a public beta expected later this year alongside Apple's upcoming software releases.

The new experience will initially launch in English before expanding to additional languages over time.

For years, Siri felt like it was falling behind the competition, but WWDC 2026 may have changed that.

With Visual Intelligence, conversational AI, personal context awareness, writing tools, improved voice capabilities, and deeper integration across Apple's ecosystem, Siri AI represents the biggest upgrade in Siri's history.

The real test will come when users get their hands on it later this year, but based on Apple's presentation, Siri is finally becoming much more than a voice assistant.
