I Tried a Fold-Out Cinema for My Phone

“Your portable home cinema” is doing a lot of heavy lifting on this box.

The cinema-style phone magnifier pictured on its packaging, with the folding stand and front lens visible.

Inside is a folding phone magnifier. Put your phone behind the panel and the picture looks bigger. The box has blockbuster ambitions. I have a workbench and a few questions.

Some Assembly, Some Life Advice

Before the setup instructions get very far, they tell me to love myself a little more. I came here for a bigger screen, but apparently we are working on me too.

The actual setup is straightforward: unfold the stand, lift the panel and put the phone behind it. The phone still does the playing. There is no second display hiding in that frame.

Time for the Light Switch

With the bench lights on, my first reaction was pretty bad. The front panel catches reflections, and those lights are competing with the picture I actually want to watch.

Then I switched the lights off. Not horrible. That is a modest compliment, but it is a noticeable step up from the first attempt.

The lighting made the difference in this quick test. The box may say cinema, but it clearly needs a little cooperation from the room.

Final Thoughts

This is a folding magnifier with an ambitious job title. Under the bench lights, it struggled. In the dark, I could see more of the appeal.

I would call it a little viewing experiment before I called it a home cinema. At least the instructions cared about my wellbeing. More gadgets could try that.
