Modding a Dyson Vacuum with a Bigger Battery: Power Upgrade in Action

A Different Kind of Repair Job

This Dyson vacuum has an Issue; the battery just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Not enough power, and not enough runtime. It’s our vacuum here at the office, and we though,t why settle for a fix when we can upgrade it?

We bought this clever little adapter that lets you plug in an external Milwaukee battery. I’d never worked with this type of mod before, but the idea was honestly brilliant. Instead of relying on the original internal battery, this setup lets you hook up something that’ll last much longer. There are other options too for DeWalt batteries and Makita batteries.

Once we got the adapter installed, it was time to snap in the new battery. But there was one issue: the vacuum is designed to run on 25 volts, and the battery we had was only 18 volts. On top of that, it was a 2Ah battery, too small to handle the power demands of the vacuum. For reliable performance, we need a battery with a higher capacity, ideally 4Ah or more.

A larger battery than this one is necessary to have the vacuum working as usual.

The Result?

So far, everything fits and connects properly but until we hook up a larger battery, we won’t know for sure how it performs.

Still, it’s one of the most fun little mods we’ve seen in a while. These kinds of upgrades are awesome because they take something ordinary and open the door to more possibilities.

Thinking of Modding Your Dyson?

If you’ve got a Dyson with battery problems, this kind of upgrade might be worth looking into. Just make sure you understand what you’re doing. Use the right adapter, and always double-check your connections.

We’re known for fixing phones, but projects like this remind me how much fun it is to dive into the world of tech mods in general.

Thanks for reading! And if your vacuum starts chasing you around the house after the upgrade… maybe we went a little too far.
