Google’s New Pixel Phones Just Copied MagSafe: And Took It Further

MagSafe Isn’t Just Apple’s Thing Anymore. Google just launched its new Pixel lineup, and every single phone now features Pixel Snap, literally MagSafe with a Google rebrand. The best part? Your Apple MagSafe accessories work right on these Pixels.

How Did Google Get Away With This?

At first glance, it might look like Google just copied Apple. But there’s a catch, Apple officially opened up the MagSafe design in 2023 as the QI2 standard, allowing other manufacturers to adopt it. It just took until now for major Android makers to integrate it. Google is leading the charge with Pixel Snap.

Pixel Snap Charger Features & Specs

Google’s Store highlights the standout features of the Pixel Snap Charger:

  • “Power in a snap.” The Pixel Snap Charger employs Qi2 magnetic tech for easy, drop-in wireless charging up to 25 W for Pixel 10 Pro XL, and 15 W for Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

  • Uses universal Qi2 magnetic charging, meaning it’s compatible with thousands of Qi2 devices “just snap it on and power up.

  • The charger is lightweight (2.2 in diameter, 0.2 in depth, 1.9 oz) and built with aluminum, polycarbonate, and magnets, with at least 15% recycled materials and 100% plastic-free packaging.

This reflects Google’s push for effortless charging while supporting a growing ecosystem of magnetic accessories.

Final Thoughts

Google might have borrowed the idea, but Pixel Snap could position magnetic charging as an Android-wide standard, not just an Apple exclusivity. With growing accessory support and features like foldable compatibility, this could be the beginning of a more unified charging future, MagSafe-style for all platforms.
