I Tried iPhone 18 Pro Max Back Glass on a 17 Pro Max

The two-tone look. Looking good and working properly are two different things.

Black back glass on an orange iPhone? I wanted to see that. So during my iPhone 18 Pro Max teardown, I tried its back-glass assembly on my orange 17 Pro Max.

It fits. That’s not the whole story.

The glass fitted, but the connector was oriented differently. I had to squeeze it into position to connect it. Then the phone kept restarting every three minutes.

So no, this isn’t a straight swap you can just throw on and forget about.

With the glass off, the differences underneath are easier to see.

Could the two-tone look still work?

The idea I mentioned in the video was to transfer the 17 Pro Max’s own wireless charging assembly and MagSafe magnets onto the new glass. That could keep its original charging hardware while changing the look.

I haven’t shown a completed, working version of that conversion. The photo shows the two-tone look, not proof of a fully working conversion.

I still think the orange-and-black combination looks sick. But fitting the glass and having a phone that actually works are two different things.
