The iPhone Duo’s Display Film Actually Impressed Me

I really don’t like the iPhone Duo so far, but there is one thing about it that has impressed me: the film covering its inner display.

One of my biggest frustrations with foldables is how easily that inner surface can pick up scratches. So I want to show you the difference I’m seeing here.

A Fingernail Leaves a Mark

On the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 I’m using, I can leave visible marks with my fingernail. They look pretty deep to me.

That is exactly the sort of thing that bothers me about a screen I’m touching every day.

The Duo Gives Me a Different Result

With the iPhone Duo, I lightly graze a knife across the inner screen. After that pass, I don’t see a scratch. The nano-texture film is doing its job in this demonstration.

This is a quick comparison using two different actions. It does not give either screen a hardness rating, and it does not mean the Duo is scratch-proof.

Final Thoughts

Apple describes the nano-texture cover layer as part of the inner display, with protection against scratches and dents among its jobs.

I have plenty of questions about this phone, but the result here gets my attention. A film that comes through that light pass without a visible scratch is one detail I’m happy to give credit for.
