I’ve just got the iPhone Duo, and I already have a lot to say. I’m going to tear it down and see whether I can make one side transparent. Before any of that, though, a few things are catching my attention.
A Small Detail Before the Teardown
There are two sets of pentalobe screws. That is an interesting place to start on an iPhone I’m about to open, and I want to see what is waiting behind them.
The transparent modification is something I want to attempt. Whether it works, and whether the phone survives everything I have planned, is still an open question.
My First Few Minutes Have Been Strange
So far, I’m not enjoying it. I’ve barely used the phone, so this is an early reaction, but why doesn’t the setup screen feel optimized for this display?
The volume buttons being up at the top feel strange to me, too. The phone feels scorching hot during these first moments, and going back to Touch ID is not something I’m excited about.
Those are my first impressions on this unit. I still need more time with it, and this brief check does not establish what is causing the heat or how it behaves in longer use.
Now I Want to See Inside
The teardown is where I get to explore what is going on underneath. I have questions about the phone, a transparent modification to attempt, and no guarantee it will still be working when I’m finished.
Or maybe it will. Let’s find out.
