Apple Watch Series 12 Can Catch What You Missed

Missed the restaurant special? Forgot the name someone just recommended? Apple wants your watch to catch it. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 introduce Live Rewind, a feature that can turn the previous 15 seconds of speech into text.

That is the attention-grabber. Underneath it are upgrades that matter every day: redesigned health sensors, tougher glass on the aluminum Series 12, and an Ultra that Apple says lasts more than two days.

Your Wrist Gets a Rewind Button

Double-press the Digital Crown and Live Rewind transcribes what was just said. You can ask Siri about the text or save it for later. Siri Recap goes further, creating summaries and key points from conversations when you enable it.

Apple says these features do not create or store audio recordings, although saved transcripts and recaps remain available. The new S11 chip includes an always-on processor and a protected audio buffer to handle processing.

There is a wait: Live Rewind and Siri Recap arrive in beta later this year, starting in English, and require Siri AI and a compatible iPhone. Sound Recognition can also alert you to sounds such as a doorbell or alarm, even without your phone nearby.

The Biggest Sensor Upgrade Is Underneath

Apple has increased electrode surface area, rearranged the light-sensing photodiodes into a ring, and added larger, more efficient green LEDs. The goal is better contact and more useful readings while you move.

Those readings feed into Readiness, which combines recent activity, sleep, and vitals to suggest whether to recover, pace yourself, or push harder. The score can update during the day. It gives the numbers a practical purpose: helping you plan your effort.

A redesigned Health app follows later this year, starting in U.S. English, with personalized insights and a Health Age feature that can incorporate lab results.

Tougher Glass or More Time Off the Charger?

The aluminum Series 12 gets Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is 60% tougher than its previous Ion-X glass. Ceramic cases also join the lineup in pearl white and night blue, alongside aluminum and titanium options.

Ultra 4 puts its larger battery and S11 efficiency toward endurance. Apple claims over two days of battery life, with up to 18 hours of workout tracking using full GPS and heart rate. A separate Max extended workout mode stretches tracking to 45 hours.
